Handsaws, Hammers, and Dinosaurs
Wednesday, July 18, 2012 from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM (PDT)
New York, NY
Will there be drinks?
Of course. Our friends at Breuckelen Distillery are providing FREE cocktails and Brooklyn Homebrew's bringing some of their latest batch for us to sample.
And if delicious local drinks aren’t your thing, there’s also a full cash bar.
Will there really be an oyster shucking station?
Who told you? Our friends at Littleneck are going to be teaching you to shuck oysters (while supplies last). Those are FREE too.
What do you mean by building a dinosaur?
We have a wood artist and a furniture builder who are drafting up plans for two dinosaur statues that they're going to be building out of reclaimed wood throughout the evening.
What are you going to do with them?
Auction them off.
We'll let them live at Littlefield for a month as an installation so people can bid - all proceeds from the dinos are going to The Adventure Project - check em.
Where do I come in then?
This is an interactive display, just jump in.
The builders will be there to direct and instruct.
What if I have no clue what I’m doing?
Then we’re jealous. Those are the best times.
You know this is ridiculous right?
Wrong it’s fun, which is good for you.
About The Brooklyn Garage:
We like to make stuff with our hands.
Call it self-reliance, focused engagement, individual agency - or some other BS,
but something about it just feels right.
We also like to have people around when we make stuff.
Cause much like sitting on a whoopee cushion or playing with fireworks, the experience is exponentially more fun the more people you share it with.
When & Where
The Brooklyn Garage
The Brooklyn Garage is a do-it-yourself club that we're trying to open in Gowanus.
We're out to provide the tools, space, and skills for people to make things with their hands with facilities for: wood work, metal work, leather work, sewing, brewing, bycycles, and cooking. Whether it's a daily member or a non-member who takes the occasional class, we want to facilitate doing whatever "it" you want to do, yourself. Get it?
